The second Sunday of Lent always deals with the wonder and awe of the Transfiguration of the Lord. We encounter people who have visions, dreams, and experiences, which are not very explainable. Some people get impulses from the Holy Spirit that lead them to action. Others are inspired through reason and wisdom to move in a certain direction or act in favor of a particular cause or idea. Most of us, in the meantime, plod through life with direction only from those who lead and have responsibilities regarding us.
In every case, we either follow or we don’t! We either believe or disbelieve, question, doubt, agree, assent, or respond in a myriad of other ways. By the very teaching of the Transfiguration, we are shown a small vision of Heaven, the Divinity of Jesus Christ, and a promise that the transcendent and holy enter into the human experience with only one goal: the promise of Eternal Life, and the truth, that Jesus is the only Way, Truth, and Life that leads to eternal life!
We should never be envious of others who have such experiences. Nor should we feel burdened, if we have a transcendent experience ourselves. These are the Signs and Wonders of God. The supernatural intersects with the natural. The divine enters the Mundelein. In each act, God allows the experiences simply to encourage our faith, overcome doubts, and deepen hour hope. God does dwell among us and His angels surround us. We are never abandoned, never without His love, and always enveloped by Grace and Mercy.
God wants us to desire Him. The Transfiguration confirms God’s Will. When we are faithful, obedient, and humble, doing good and loving God, when our end comes, we too will be transformed – we call it the Resurrection: the entire reason for Easter!
