This weekend we celebrate an abiding Catholic teaching which comes to us from the early Apostles. The Didiche (or Teaching of the 12 Apostles) instruct the faithful to respect life and not succumb to the thinking of the day that abortion is a “good”. From the earliest days, the Church has always taught the value of the life in the womb. She has stood firm, for 2,000 years, that abortion is an evil. This moral principle is not political (this has been the mind set of the pagan world). This is not a political, but, a moral teaching, for which the Church has a right and obligation to stand in the public square and teach firmly, yet, lovingly that abortion is the murder of an innocent child in the mother’s womb.
I am edified by the 100’s of thousands who show up in Washington, D.C. for the Annual March for Life. The vast majority of marchers are young people. This gives me hope that future generations will hold fast to the ideal of a healthy feminism that loves life, not, a twisted feminism that sees children as a disease and their bodies as a playground for the reprobate abuse of “women’s rights”. Too many Catholics believe abortion is O.K. To those who “feel” this way, I tell you, with deep love and concern, you are wrong and must repent of such “beliefs”.
To be pro-life is broader than just abortion To be “pro-life” encompasses the value of human life not only in the womb, but the needy, hurting, marginalized and abused. Pro-lifers are concerned from womb to tomb. However, there is a hierarchy in being pro-life. Abortion is at the top. There is no “equality” in the area of pro-life. Abortion is of a greater scale of immorality then other concerns. When whimpy bishops, and ill-informed Catholics suggest a “seamless” garment, they are in error and do grave damage to the mind of the faithful and the Body of Christ!
So, say a rosary for life. Give to groups that are pro-life. Write letters to politicians who advocate for abortion. Correct your fellow Catholics who vote for anti-life candidates. Stand firm in loving those who fall, helping those who reach out, and assisting those in need. To respect life is to oppose abortion, but also, to be even more: From womb to tomb.
