Prayer... the never ending frontier

Prayer... the never ending frontier.

These are the voyages of the prayerful Church. Our never ending mission, to lift our voices in praise, to seek out God, to boldly go where God directs us to go.

Any of this sound familiar? Well, that’s the point. It should sound familiar, and prayer should be a familiar practice. Prayer must be exercised, practiced, disciplined, and regular. If we are to grow closer to God, we need to get to know God, spend time with him, and be comfortable with him. This can only happen if we pray!

There should be an urgent call to prayer for each of us, myself included. The habit of prayer not only soothes the bruises of a world turned against God, but makes us feel better and will compel us to want to be with God regularly. If we pray regularly we become joyful at the prospect of time with God. When we dawdle about prayer, we can become guilty in our contempt. Laziness about a prayer routine, putting it off for later, only increases temptations and allows our relationship with God, His wisdom, His insight, and His love, to become distant.

So, if your commitment to prayer has faltered, recommit. If your prayer is lax, toughen it up. If your prayer is irregular, strengthen the habit. This time of Lent is a great opportunity to renew and refresh our “talking with God”! Let prayer grow on you. Regular prayer will bind you more intimately with God, help you see more clearly His plan for you, and draw more deeply from you the essential desire to be with Him forever. Discipline yourself in prayer. Take these 40 days to be more prayerful and see what an on-going prayer life can do for the salvation of your soul.
