Happy New Year

A new year is upon us.  Number 60 for me!  (I know, I’m a babe to some and an old man to others in this congregation.)   How will you make this different from the last?  What changes will you make to lead a better life, both spiritually and physically?  Will they be empty endeavors, faithful strivings, half-hearted attempts, or fruitful goals?  Well, only you (and God) know the answers to these questions.  Only you can decide how to control the winds that will blow and challenges to be encountered.  Ultimately, it’s up to you.

However, success can only be achieved or accomplished with a lasting effect with God as a Partner.  The first few weeks are about resolutions and promises.  What about the next 11 1/2 months?  What will they bring, what measure of victory will come your way?  To say, “Happy New Year” is to wish another only the best in all that is undertaken.  The desire of the Christian heart is to follow God more closely.  The more God is at our side, the better opportunity of victory, no matter the goal or resolution.

As the Christmas decorations are taken down, and New Year’s resolutions replace them, be reasonable and realistic.  But, most of all become more Christian, be more like Christ.  That is the best resolution one can make!  Happy New Year!
