On this Father’s Day, I want to bless and thank all of our fathers (past and present) for all they do to keep their families alive and strong in Jesus Christ. As head of your home (with your wife as the heart—both working as equals), it is important to set a good example of behavior, language, and attitude for your children. Believe it or not, they look up to you to guide, direct, encourage, discipline, and teach them what it means to be a good person, a faithful Catholic and a lover of God.
Fatherhood is a trying and challenging endeavor. Don’t ever think that what you say or do doesn’t matter or influence your kids. Be a good man, a holy man, a fair man, and a charitable man: these traits will do so much to impact the next generation—your sons and daughters. Together with your wife you are the first teachers of the Faith. Never be tempted away from the love of your spouse, never give into despair regarding your children. If you are a single parent, or divorced, the same expectations and duties apply. May the intercession of St. Joseph give you courage in all you do! Happy Father’s Day.
