First Sunday of Advent

Four weeks until Christmas!  Does this thought get you anxious?  Does it set you wondering about all that needs to be done.  Sometimes we spend so much time with the anxiousness of preparing and forget the real reason for the preparation.  Our focus must always be Jesus Christ.

To reflect on God’s love for us is the real reason for this Season of Advent.  The very word, Advent, is about waiting in patience, not anguish.  We await a Savior, who will die for us and gain us Heaven.  He comes as a baby, little and vulnerable to remind us how little and vulnerable we are!  We need the Savior to grow and teach us how to grow, to love us, so that we can love others.  We call this season Peace, Love, Joy, Hope, Light, Giving, Happiness, Caring, Charity, and Blessed.  We assign these names to demonstrate the vitality and certainty of the Christian Faith that “God so loved the world, that He became Flesh for you and me, that whosoever believes in Him will live forever”!

So, all the extras like decorations and presents, flow from this truth.  They reflect a treasure that is eternal, unlike all the rest which is fleeting!  Don’t be anxious about Christmas.  Ride the wave of Advent and prepare your heart to be a beautiful and comfortable manger on Christmas Day.  Don’t be the one who throws Christmas out the day after, with a sigh of relief and a washing of hands.  Take the time to prepare, and you may just find this Christmas worthy keeping for a few days more!
