Corpus Christi

Dear Friends,

There was a priest professor in my seminary who thought the whole idea of Eucharistic Adoration was a medieval holdover that should not be practiced. He believed that Eucharistic Adoration was an abhorration that twisted the "idea" of the Mass. First, this priest couldn't have been more wrong. Second, I was always interested in where he did his daily holy hour of prayer. Sadly, he didn't. Why he became a priest was another question, other than to confuse future priests and diminish in them any sense of
holiness or Lordship regarding our Savior, Jesus Christ! Shame on him!!!

Eucharistic Adoration is an opportunity to spend time before our Lord, who is in the Tabernacle. For most people this is done before or after Mass for just a few moments. For others, a holy hour is a time to read Scripture, pray liked devotions, sit in silence, listen to His voice, and put our concerns before the mind of God.
Eucharistic Adoration, or time before the Blessed Sacrament, is not a twisted blight on the Holy Mass. On the contrary, Eucharistic Adoration, sincerely spent time before our Lord, has as its singular goal to make the Holy Mass an even more beautiful and profound experience. All devotionals enhance the Mass and, in turn, they flow from the very heart of the sacrifice of the Holy Mass.

This Sunday we take stock of our appreciation for our Lord, present in the consecrated Bread and Wine at Mass. We also give thanks to Jesus for being present to us and remaining in our churches so that we can talk with Him "face to face"! So next time you arrive at Mass, or after it concludes, take a moment to look at the tabernacle and sit before Jesus. He wants to talk to you. Do you really and truly want to talk to Him?
