I really believe that Lent is not a fulfilled spiritual experience until you go to Confession. To be clear, if you are not in a State of Grace because of mortal sin, you should not receive Holy Communion until you go to Sacramental Confession. Lent is an opportunity to right ourselves with God; to reconcile our sinful nature and return to the Lord, Jesus Christ.
In the bulletin is the usual examination of conscience for Confession. Look it over, then come. Rest assured that there isn’t a single thing you’ve done that I haven’t heard from someone else before. My duty as your spiritual Father is to welcome and forgive. Your duty as a penitent is to confess, do penance and make a firm amend to overcome and not repeat your grave sins. Venial, or lesser sins, should be confessed too.
There are 3 Communal Penances this week, all at 7:00 p.m.: Tuesday at St. Joseph, Wednesday at St. Peter in Spring Grove, and Thursday at St. John in Johnburg. In addition to the normal confessions from 4:00—4:30 on Saturday here at St. Joseph.
Please come to Confession, wipe away your sin, come clean with the Lord and set your soul free. Complete your Lent with a good Confession.
