Ash Wednesday

The Lenten Season is upon us.  This Wednesday starts off the 40 days to Easter.  I want to invite you to make every effort to attend Mass or the noon ashes service.  Masses are at 8:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m.  At noon is a Liturgy of the Word with ashes.  When the priest puts the ashes on your forehead , he says, “Remember that thou art dust, and to dust you shall return.”  This admonishing reminds us of our mortality in this life.  The frailty and vulnerability of human existence is a great spiritual way to enter into your Lenten experience.

The three emphases of prayer, fasting and charity recommend a good and proper way to live these 40 days.  Giving something up, changing a bad habit and making it good, extending your finances beyond yourself, and a good examination of your conscience as part of a sincere confession, these are all great steps to a good Lent.

If you fail on your journey, start again.  If your forget, recommit.  If it’s hard to do, don’t give up.  This entire season is about humbling ourselves before God; to ready ourselves for the gift of eternal life:  Easter!

Let us pray for each other, sustaining our journeys together in the Heart of Christ.
