Advent: Holy Anticipation

I was mentioning recently how nice it would be if winter would go as fast as summer seems to go.  However, Advent and the Christmas season can help dispel the dark of night and the cold of winter through the lights we put up, the trees we trim and the food we share at parties and gatherings.  Advent helps us to eagerly anticipate the coming of Christ.  This season is not about being frantic and chaotic.  It is a time to take a few weeks (4 to be exact) and slowly prepare for the arrival of Jesus.

This Advent be sure to take a prayerful and more leisurely approach to Christmas.  As we light each candle along the way, don’t dread how little time remains.  Instead, let each candle remind us why we have this season.  We “get ready” for Christmas, because at Christmas “God dwells with us” which starts the path to our salvation and the promise of Heaven.  With the proper spirit we don’t say, “Well, I’m glad that’s over.”  Rather, we say, “I can’t wait!”  We have an eager anticipation, a holy anticipation that the world will be a better place, a holier place, a Christian place.

May this season of Advent prepare our hearts and souls for His Holy Coming.  Holy anticipation is great.  But, the fruit of waiting is God Himself:  Jesus Christ!
