Each Thursday night beginning in October through the end of April St. Joseph provides shelter to the homeless of McHenry County.
On the 4th Thursday St. Joseph volunteers are the hosts for our guests.
We are blessed to be able to host a shelter for the homeless of McHenry County. In order to do this, we need your help. There are many way you can help. Our shifts are:
5:30-8:00 p.m. This includes setting up mattresses for our guests to sleep on, preparing coffee and cold drinks, setting up paper plates and plastic ware, help with serving the food, cooking and cleaning up.
8:00-11:00 p.m. This involves preparing lunches for our guests to take with them in the morning, chaperoning our guests and overseeing their going to bed.
11:00 p.m.-3:00 a.m. Chaperone our guests while they sleep.
3:00-7:00 a.m. Chaperone our guests, prepare their breakfast—coffee, cereal, whatever, get them up, serve breakfast and supervise cleanup of Fr. Miller Hall and their departure.
Please contact Bill Weber to let him know which shift you are interested in helping with. Bill Weber: 815-675-3306
In addition to help with shifts, we are in need of people to wash sheets and pillow cases on the 4th week.
Please consider helping as a volunteer in serving the homeless or donating food or other items that we need. If you have any question, please call Deacon Al or Helen Dietz at 262-279-0894. To sign up to volunteer, please call Bill Weber at 815-675-3306.
